oblivious girls in band t-shirts

'errr who's mick jagger? is he the one with the moves lol?'

sure, honey. I bet you LOVE blasting out metallica.

'I thought Nirvana was the T-shirt label'

So as I was cutting out paper moles for my Mum this evening (don't ask) my mind wandered to all those annoying bitches who wear band t-shirts and have absolutely no idea who the band is. I understand that in the world of fashion, there's a certain "look" to be achieved and if you're going for the "rock chick" look, it may be preferable to sport a cropped Nirvana tee to look "edgy" but the truth is you don't look "edgy" you look like a dumbass. If you want to achieve that kind of look, go ahead, but wear bands you actually know and like. Or maybe just a logo that doesn't attribute to anything. Don't be THAT girl.

I mean it's not just the fact that you look like a moron, it's also just sort of insulting. I mean, as a fan of the Beatles it's just aggravating to see a girl wearing an Abbey Road tee from H&M and saying 'yeah well my  name's Eleanor, I was named after Eleanor Rigby.' Just cos your PARENTS like the Beatles and decided to name you after a very sad song (in which case what the hell were your parents thinking? Do they want you to end up stealing rice from churches or something?) does not give you the right to parade around as a faux fan looking all "vintage" cos of your supposed namesake.

'I thought it was a pretty design so I bought the t-shirt!'
There are plenty of other pretty designs out there. Buy one of those, not something that makes you look like an idiot and disgraces the name of good music. I shudder to think what Kurt Cobain would say if he saw the amount of fourteen year old girls caked in foundation wearing Nirvana t-shirts trying to look "grungy" at an ice skating rink with a guy twice her age in a tracksuit, the epitome of Broken Britain. Am I going off topic now? I'm sorry.

To be honest I blame Miley Cyrus. I saw a couple of pictures of her wearing a Metallica T-shirt and, well, the thought of her listening to Metallica makes me laugh. A lot.

Comment your thoughts below! :)

I love you for this. I've always said the same since high school when the common room was full of teenage girls wearing Nirvana tops. I used to ask them to name 5 songs by the band and they could only answer with one, which you could probably guess. Grrrrrrrr... X

I totally agree, it pisses me off so much! The Rolling Stones is another one, clearly they have no clue and think its a random mouth, h&m are to blame!

Yes! Thank you for putting everything I hate about these girls in a post. I am the proud owner of three band t-shirts (two Bowie, and one Beastie Boys) of bands I actually like, not like fake girls who love to wear band t-shirts and don't know shit about the actual bands. They give actual girls who like the bands a bad rep.

oh my god, you couldn't have put it more perfectly! i always get people coming up to me when i'm wearing my iron maiden, metallica and nirvana t-shirts and ask where i got it, and my first question is 'oh do you like (enter band name here) then?' if the answer is 'no i just think the top is cool' they deserve such a slap! If you are going to buy a band tshirt, make it someone you like, cause its bloody annoying!

well done for writing this completely true post!

Exactly my sentiment!! "You don’t wear the band t-shirt unless you listen to the band!"

Ahhh thank you so much for this post. It is my ultimate pet-hate. The fact that people wear these band T-shirts to look cool annoys me no end. Music shouldn't even be about wearing a logo on your chest to be fashionable. Ultimately, it ruins it for those who wear the T-shirts because they actually LISTEN TO and LIKE the band.

Thank you for saying it how it is!

I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is required to get setup? I'm assuming having
a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I'm not very web savvy so I'm not 100% positive. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sorry, but I think this is incredibly judgmental. One of my best friends is, in fact, called Eleanor after the song, wears Beatles tees (which happen to be from H&M) and IS a massive fan of the Beatles. Yes, by wearing any branded clothing you associate yourself with a concept and some people don't understand that, but equally you shouldn't make assumptions about people like that. You didn't actually strike me as the sort of person who does that, but clearly I'm wrong. I'm sure you'd be really insulted if someone said a similar thing about you and literature, which they could be perfectly justified in doing.

Also your post on Mitt Romney is factually inaccurate; if you're going to comment on politics, get it right.

I understand where you are coming from with this post. But if I had a little boy I would so dress him up in a little Guns and Roses tee( Which is a band I like) just so that he looked like a rocker dude. I think children pull them off so well!

I mean I'm just like umm nice shirt what's your favorite Beatles song if you could choose and how many of their songs do you have on your phone/vinyl

I think it comes across as disingenuous; like you're representing yourself in a way that doesn't reflect you. I'd much prefer to see people in One Direction t-shirts if that's the music they really listen to than wearing Pink Floyd/Ramones/Nirvana t-shirts because at least they're not pretending to be something they're not.

Thankfully, my two favourite bands (Pearl Jam and Silverchair) aren't as "trendy" in that department.

Well, this may be true in most cases, but it is still a little insensitive of you to just assume these girls don't listen to these bands. You are quite literally basing your argument on pure appearances. I understand that you feel offended because these bands mean alot to you and you genuinely enjoy them, but that doesn't really give you a good reason to insult other girls.
